This chapter will focus on the culture created within Rozene Information Technology High School and how this culture, along with the way in which students experience technology at school, gives students a sense of limits and possibilities in there current academic situation and how these school experiences may contribute to their sense of self in relation to others.
What’s in a name?
The current culture of the school originated when the schools name and focus was changed. Originally, this school opened under the moniker of Rozene High School, but most referred to the school under its nickname RHS. Although the name has changed, when walking through the school you can still see reminders of this name and the schools history - the initials RHS are everywhere: along the frieze above the main door, within the original ironwork that has RHS cast into the framework all throughout the auditorium and in some of the stairwell railings. Nonetheless the school was renamed, and the academic focus was changed when Beaumont Academy of Technology (BAT) moved out of its original setting, and into the RHS building.
